Trail Week
Discover Finland Through Its Trails
From peaceful forest paths and sparkling lakeshores to scenic ridges and inspiring nature destinations, Finland offers endless opportunities to explore the outdoors. During Trail Week, visitors are invited to discover the country’s unique trail network and experience the restorative power of nature.
Trail Week celebrates Finland’s outdoor culture and encourages everyone – locals and international visitors alike – to enjoy hiking, cycling, paddling and other nature-based activities. Whether you are looking for a relaxing walk in nearby nature or an unforgettable wilderness adventure, Trail Week is the perfect time to explore Finland’s most beautiful landscapes.

The Story Behind Trail Week
Every trail has a story, and so does Trail Week.
The initiative began in Central Finland in 2020 with a vision of helping people reconnect with nature and discover the outdoor opportunities waiting just beyond their doorstep. The idea was simple: when people know their local trails, they are more likely to use them—and to experience the many benefits that nature brings to health, well-being and quality of life.
What started as a regional campaign has grown into a nationwide movement celebrating Finland’s unique trail network and outdoor culture. Trail Week invites people of all ages and backgrounds to get outside, discover new places and experience the joy of movement in nature.
Whether you are a local resident or a visitor from abroad, Trail Week offers an opportunity to see Finland the way Finns do—through forests, lakes, hills and the countless trails that connect us with nature.

And while one trail adventure is a great way to take part in Trail Week, you can also challenge yourself to spend time in nature at least three times during the week. This follows the 3–30–300 Nature Recommendation, which promotes regular contact with nature as an important element of health and well-being.
Beyond individual experiences, Trail Week highlights the value of nature for society as a whole. Accessible trails, nearby green spaces and opportunities for outdoor recreation contribute to healthier people, more vibrant communities and more attractive destinations. By encouraging people to discover and enjoy local nature, Trail Week supports both individual well-being and regional vitality across Finland.
